Our Mission: To assist and encourage adoption of best management practices (BMPs) to protect and improve water quality in Illinois.
C-BMP, in coordination with University of Illinois Extension, Illinois Department of Agriculture, the Macon County Soil and Water Conservation District and participating fertilizer dealers, is offering $4.00 per acre cost-share for producers who use a nitrification inhibitor.
Acreage must be in the Friends Creek Watershed, producers must complete a nitrogen management plan and follow University of Illinois Agronomy Handbook guidelines.
The program began in fall 2004 and will continue through the 2006 growing season.
A cost-share program is available to all producers in the Lake Bloomington Watershed who use a nitrification inhibitor with fall application of nitrogen or apply spring nitrogen after April 1.

The Illinois Buffer Partnership is a collaboration of private and public, agricultural and conservation organizations that promote and showcase the voluntary efforts of farmers and landowners in the planting, maintenance, and enhancement of streamside buffers.
C-BMP is a proud sponsor of this Partnership
Five hundred and seventy-two mini-bulk tanks were collected at two sites in 2004. 2005 collection dates were in Steward, IL on Sept. 22 and Dewey, IL on Sept. 29.

According to University of Illinois Agronomy Handbook guidelines, if a nitrification inhibitor is used, nitrogen application should not begin until soil temperatures have reached 60°F and the temperature trend is falling. Nitrogen may be fall applied without a stabilizer, but not until soil temperatures remain below 50°F.
In 2002, soil thermometers and educational materials were mailed to producers in six watersheds to help them schedule nitrogen applications.

C-BMP funded the printing of 40,000 decals to help producers calculate the proper rate of nitrogen fertilizer. In 1999 these were distributed to 500 agrichemical retailers in Illinois to be placed on anhydrous ammonia tanks. Download the Fall N Brochure.
